Music from the Barrio South of Lisbon
From across the Tejo river comes a "post modern music", frenetic, nosiey, rhythmic and infectious this describes the music of three youg men from the ghettos south of Lisbon, known as Blacksea Não Maya. B.N.M release music via Lisbon's Príncipe record label. The three members of the collective live in the Cucena neighbourhood of Lisbon. Below is a link to a photo story about that side of Lisbon not seen by tourist or many locals.
Life on the fringe of society -
There are three ghettos in the southern outskirts of Lisbon which are occupied by the “Santa Casa Misericordia Seixal” (SCMS) institution: Santa Marta De Corroios, Quinta da Cucena Cucena and Quinta Da Princesa.
In the Corroios ghetto live 900 people, 120 registered families, mostly all are Africa immigrants from the former Portuguese colonies of Capo Verde, Guinea, Sào Tomé, Angola and Moçambique.
